The Chillhouse Bali Review
Here I was; leaving the hostel life behind for a few days. I can’t lie; I was looking forward to discovering The Chillhouse. As soon as I entered the place, I could already feel the good vibes they were talking about. The staff were lovely. A welcome drink was even waiting for me. You just need a coconut, right? It was the beginning of an epic relaxing time. I looked at the menu. Although I’m not a foodie, I can easily recognize good food. This, my friend, was promising.
A private room. You know that kind of thing you can’t always enjoy while on the road. Well, you can, unless you are a backpacker and you are after the cheapest places to stay. #storyofmylife
That private room was simple, cute and I swear I could have pretended to be that fairy living in the chilliest fairy tale. The best part was probably the bathroom. Outside, decorated by bamboos and little flowers, I was discovering an outdoor bathroom with a hot shower. This, my friend, was luxury.
As you walk across the place, you notice a few massive mattresses where you can easily relax for hours.
But… The Chill house is more than a relaxing place. It’s even more than a resort. It’s a retreat. Surfers, yoga masters and bicycle lovers, this is the place where you should enjoy your holidays in Bali.
Okay, I’m not a surfer. Okay, I’m not very flexible either. Okay, most of the time, I need to force myself to chill out and keep my hamsters quiet up there.
Still; this was what I needed.
My favourite moment of the day was probably the dinner at night. The atmosphere was great and forced you to get out there and meet people. I had the privilege to share those meals with some inspiring people mostly from Europe and Australia. Plus; the food was great! (By the way, they also have vegetarian and vegan options.)
Yoga at the Chillhouse
I think I tried yoga once or twice. This was before Bali though. As I’m pretty much hyperactive, all the things that require me to be quiet, still or in a temporary painful position are a huge challenge for me. I like the idea of it though. Here I was trying to pick a yoga session among all their options. Do I know anything about yoga? Obviously not. So, as I was trying to get an easy option, I was completely lost with these course titles. I saw something about letting go and I thought; I love this name. Let’s do that one! Good news; I loved it! The teacher was really helpful and I didn’t feel intimidated at all. In fact, when I left the course, I thought I should do yoga more often!
Guided Meditation at the Chillhouse
When I realized they had one session of guide meditation a week, I looked at the schedule and I couldn’t be happier. I was there that day and this was going right on my to-do list. Of course, this is also hard for me, but I always like to try new things.
Well. This was physically harder than mentally. I have to confess though, I think I fell asleep at some point as I can’t remember all of it, but fair enough; it felt so good.
The teacher in charge of the meditation is also the one who is doing the healing session so you can have interesting chats with her. I, personally, didn’t try the healing session but I had the chance to talk about it with people who tried it while I was there.
Things to Do at the Chillhouse
As I mentioned above, you can easily pick a daily surf lesson, yoga session or mountain biking trip. Between, you’ll have time to relax beside the pool, the beach or on one of those perfect couches. If you need to catch up on work a little, they also have a co-working space. They provide Wi-Fi and a lot of great meals too, so you won’t even have to leave the place if you’d rather stay still. Bonus; you can also get a massage (tried it and loved it!).
If you’d rather not, you can also book a day trip to Ubud, to Uluwatu or even a snorkeling trip. You can also rent a motorbike (or a bike) and ride around Canggu to discover the place by yourself.
Basically, there are many options and you won’t have time to get bored!

BEFORE YOU GO TO INDONESIA
☑ Book your flight: If your flight isn’t booked yet – check out the flights on Skyscanner or via Google Flights. My top saving tip is flexibility. If you’re flexible, you should be able to find a cheaper flight.
☑ Book your accommodation: I always use Airbnb and Booking.com. If you’d rather stay in a hostel, you should take a look at the options on Hostelworld. If you click on the Airbnb link and you don’t have an account yet – you’ll get a $30 discount on your first booking.
☑ Protect your cute face: Oh, you may want to protect your cute face with a travel medical insurance. I would suggest SafetyWing as they offer the best rates, especially for long-term travelers. Otherwise, you can also take a look at World Nomads.
☑ Pack the essentials: You can consult this list when it’s time to pack your bag! Do not leave without a universal charger, a power bank and your passport!
☑ Do you need a visa? If you aren’t sure if you need a visa, it would be a smart idea to take a quick look before you go. You can use iVisa – it’s super useful and easy to use.
